  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 8 ounces Velveeta cheese (cubed)
  • ½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup Panko bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix Panko breadcrumbs with shredded cheddar cheese and melted butter for topping.
  3. Boil salted water in a medium saucepan, cook elbow macaroni until al dente, then drain.
  4. In another saucepan over medium heat, melt butter, add flour, mustard powder, and onion powder; cook for 1 minute while whisking.
  5. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth, bring to a boil while whisking constantly.
  6. Reduce heat and add cubed Velveeta, stirring until melted and creamy.
  7. Combine pasta with the cheese sauce and half of the shredded cheddar.
  8. Pour into a greased baking dish, sprinkle breadcrumb mixture on top, then bake for about 20 minutes until golden.
