  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 large yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 8 oz small pasta shells
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Remove from pan and set aside, reserving some grease.
  2. Lower the heat and sauté diced onion in the reserved grease until soft. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in flour for about a minute, then gradually add the beef broth while stirring. Bring to a boil.
  4. Add tomato sauce, seasonings, and pasta; stir well. Cover and simmer for 12-15 minutes until pasta is tender.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and cheddar cheese until melted; return cooked beef to the pan and heat through before serving.
