  • 2 cups warm water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup honey or sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil (canola or vegetable)
  • 4 to 5 1/2 cups all-purpose or bread flour

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or stand mixer, combine warm water, yeast, and a pinch of honey or sugar. Let rest for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add remaining honey/sugar, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add more flour until dough pulls away from sides; it should be smooth and slightly sticky.
  4. Knead on medium speed for about 4-5 minutes (or by hand for 5-8 minutes).
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1.5 hours).
  6. Grease two loaf pans and shape dough into logs; place in pans.
  7. Cover and let rise again until inch above pans (about 45 minutes).
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C); bake for about 30-33 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on wire rack before slicing.
