  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup 2% milk
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups salted butter (room temperature)
  • Sliced almonds and whole almonds for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF and prepare two 8-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form; refrigerate.
  3. Cream butter until light, then add sugar and mix until fluffy.
  4. Combine dry ingredients in one bowl and wet ingredients in another, then alternate adding them to the creamed mixture.
  5. Gently fold in egg whites.
  6. Divide batter into prepared pans and bake for 25–27 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
